I bought this model food saver over 3-3/4 years ago (has it really been that long?) primarily for sous vide purposes, but I quickly found out what an amazing job it did at keeping frozen foods tasting fresher!Let’s get one thing out of the way: Yes, YOU CAN DOUBLE SEAL. Double sealing is simply putting a 2nd seal after the 1st in case one seal fails. To double seal, simply do your first seal, use scissors to cut off ½” or so off the end-piece above the 1st seal, and do a 2nd seal. Easy-peasy. Frankly, I rarely double-seal anymore. Only when it’s a something I won’t use for 6 months. I’ve not had issues with my single seals.I’ve used all kinds of brands of vacuum sealer rolls – they all work. I buy the cheapest at the time on Amazon. Note the large rolls don't initially fit in the Food Saver - I cut them to size with scissors. The machine will overheat if used repeatedly, so yes, you may have to pause and give it a minute or 2 to cool off. It doesn’t take long. I seal sliced home-baked bread, 4 loaves worth at a time. I seal entire roasts, sliced for a few days of lunch meat… in other words, I seal A LOT. I turn off the machine for 1 minute… then it’s ready to go.To seal liquids – place your liquid in a cheap baggie or in ice cube trays and freeze (for baggies, seal and place flat on a cookie sheet in the freezer). When I want to add marinade to a bag I pre-freeze batches in an ice cube tray, freeze those in a baggie, and add 1 or 2 to my Food Saver steaks or salmon fillets prior to sealing with the food saver. The Food Saver seal has been far more reliable than the zip lock for liquids. To seal juicy meats or veggies: place the item(s) in a cheap bag (doesn’t have to be a zip lock, just twist the end and fold under), then food saver that bag. When freezing ground beef and chicken, flatten it and place in a bag, and food saver it that way – easy to stack in the freezer and doesn’t take up much space! If you are getting air in your bags, be sure you have clean edges (fold them back with filling), seal with the rough side facing upwards, and hold the bag level with the sealer (I rarely have to do this, but if it’s a really heavy item, I might). For freezing home-baked or store-bought breads/rolls: Stop the machine after most but not all the air is out (don’t want to squish that wonderful artisan loaf you just made!). It will seal just fine. I usually wrap slices in saran wrap first, then food saver. Keeps my home-made bread wonderfully in the freezer for over 8 months!I now buy meat, fish, and poultry on sale so I can separate and food saver. I even food saver and freeze herbs when I make bulk purchases. And for sous vide, it’s ideal.Yes, you can reseal chip bags. No, you can’t use this to seal ‘baggies’. I am able to re-seal thicker cracker bags. Yes, I use the handheld with jar lid attachment (attachment purchased separately) to seal jars for salads and it works well.Because it ‘auto detects’ the bag to seal it, it needs a good ½ inch of bag to work with, and sometimes just a little over. I have no issue with this.As I said, I couldn't live without mine now. I did have problems with it not sealing all the time at first... that was my user error, and when I started making sure the edges were clean and dry, I had no more issues. For what it's worth, I have over-worked mine as I do a lot of freezing, so mine has held up incredibly well.It does what it is supposed to do. The instructions were vague but once we figured it out, every thing has gone well. We are good about buying things that are on sale and storing them in our freezer. We have used to store salmon, lamb, beef among many other things. We like have a better visual of the bags coming out and able to cut to the desired length. Our old one after ten years did not do some of these thing. This food saver have save me so time and love it easy to used does what it save also love the handheld tool make lots of room in freezerHaving used 2 earlier models of the Food SAVER sealer and the need to purchase another due to the previous unit’s failure, I elected to purchase an upgraded unit. The V4400 2 in one has exceeded my expectations and satisfaction for this unit. The auto sealing feature is so easy to use and so efficient. The width of the seal strip applied to the vacuum bags allows for a greater insurance of freshness. We have used several times and have been super happy with the performance and the veggies we sealed and froze.Love this sealerSuction is great, I just love using the jar attachment. Everything I put into the freezer, I vacuum seal. ??I vacuum seal food freezer. It is definitely worth the money It is definitely worth the moneyWe have been using the previous version for 9 years and it continues to work. Just in case, we bought a new one and it sucks harder and works quieter. Fast and good! ThanksMalheureusement, je suis déçu. L’aspiration n’est pas suffisamment longue pour bien sortir l’air. Je dois le faire plus d’une fois.. pour le prix.. ce n’est pas un super investissement. Très décevant.I had this product for about a month and it was pretty good up to the point the bags wouldn't seal properly. I read through the Manual and tried trouble shooting but nothing seem to work. I had to return it...thanks to Amazon for taking it back. I bought a more expensive FoodSaver and it works great...cross fingers. Even the instruction manual had been wet BUT the actual Foodsaver was Brand New and undamaged in the original packing as the Warehouse stated. It was half the price of a new one with a pristine box. Worked perfectly and I saved $200. I love Amazon Warehouse.
