Out of the package very much smaller than the belt that broke. Other reviewers say that is because the older belt stretched out with use. Some have said they couldn't get it to fit. I wasn't sure myself at first. Don't know if the original belt was that tight as this is a hand me down unit.Putting it on the machine is a struggle as the belt is very definitely a tight fit. This is how I did it.Using a small shank Phillips screw driver. First remove the brush guard -a #2 Phillips screw holding it in place. Pull out the brush assembly. Second remove the plastic front cover which has the belt twist picture on it and hides the front of the motor shaft. Now put the new belt over the brush assembly and replace it in its holder. Slip the screw driver shank through the belt through the opening in the front that has the motor shaft exposed. Using two hands pull down on the belt a few times to try and give it a preliminary stretch. Finally with the belt slid far enough up the screw driver shank to allow you to get the tip of the screw driver under the motor shaft begin leveraging the belt to expand it. Taking your other hand start working the belt down the shank. With the proper amount of force the belt can be worked down the shank and past the end of the motor shaft. Then pulling the screw driver handle towards yourself it will slip in the right side of the motor shaft between the belt and shaft. Now simply slide the screwdriver away to release it.Reassemble the unit. The vacuum seems to run fine. If the belt lasts as long as the last one then five stars despite the minor inconvenience.
